The Bottom

Goodnight, lonely prince

It’s too bad about your father

And those awful things he said

Please don’t listen, no don’t bother

Maybe I can coax some kindness out

A little for the two of us, to share

Keep between us,

For the lonely nights to bear

I will tie you the bible

And watch you sink down to the bottom

All apologies unspoken

But your pride still left unbroken

I will tie you to the bible

And watch you sink down to the bottom

Waiting for an answer

To the question you never asked

Wake up, you’re the new king

Tried to warn you when I could

We could’ve ran back then but now

You’ve inherited his troubles

I will tie you the bible

And watch you sink down to the bottom

All apologies unspoken

But your pride still left unbroken

I will tie you to the bible

And watch you sink down to the bottom

Waiting for an answer

To the question you never asked

Could’ve saved you, could’ve dug you from his hole

Now you watch me, with dry eyes now icy cold

If you hate me, maybe I can only blame myself

For seeing truths where, I hadn’t learned to doubt

I should’ve tied you to the bible

And watch you sink down to the bottom

My apologies, unspoken

But your pride still left unbroken

Should’ve tied me to the bible

Watched me sink down to the bottom

Waiting for an answer

To the questions I never should’ve asked

I never should’ve asked
