Monster

There’s an element of surprise

There’s an element of fear

The look in your eyes

Tells me that I should not be here,

And my hands are on your shoulders,

You’re holding on my waist,

No one knows what’s behind that door

But it’s a question we can’t shake.

You’re fighting a monster who’s as blind as you are,

With it’s angry fists and lashing tongue,

The blows are hard, and fast, and long,

And there is no escape for you, my darling.

Do I breathe too heavy?

Do I stand too close for you?

Now we’re in the middle of the nightmare,

And it’s far too late to ever turn away.

And it’s trying hard to break our will,

But our faith is our face,

There’s still half way to survive,

But there is much more we can take.

We’re fighting a monster who’s as blind as we are,

With it’s angry fists and lashing tongue,

The blows are hard, and fast, and long,

And there is no easy escape for us, my darling.

It’s such a fatal flaw to be human,

Our ideas don’t spread.

If this was up to me I’d say,

Let’s get ourselves a box,

And listen to our heart’s beat till we’re dead.

Oh, c’mon.

We’re fighting a monster who’s as blind as you are,

With it’s angry fists and lashing tongue,

The blows are hard, and fast, and long,

And there is no easy escape, my darling.
